JOSEPH "JOE" FRANK MUNGOVAN
died peacefully at home on Monday, June 18th. Born August 24, 1931 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Thomas and Agnes (Bonifas) Mungovan. Joe was a veteran of the Korean War proudly serving our country in the United States Navy as both a Fireman and Barber from July, 1950 to May, 1954. Joe then went on to become a Barber in Fort Wayne where he operated his shop on Creighton and Calhoun before retiring in 2014.
When you didn’t’ see him at the shop you could find him next-door at Manny’s socializing with friends and waiting for the next customer. He was a loving husband, father and friend who was quick to share his handsome smile and warm heart with everyone he knew.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane (Baker) and their five children: Patrick (Julie) Mungovan, Timothy (Sandy) Mungovan, Kathy (Keith) Porter, Thomas (Peggy) Mungovan and Mark Mungovan. He is survived by two brothers, Richard Mungovan and Gerald (Marilyn) Mungovan and his brother-in-law, George Topp. He is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Mungovan, Jr and sister, Agnes Topp. His legacies include 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and growing!
Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 518 E. Dewald St. with calling one hour prior. Visitation also from 3:00-5:00 pm and 6:00 – 7:30 pm (with rosary at 7:30 pm) on Thursday at Tom Mungovan Funeral Home, 2221 South Calhoun St. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials can be made to Saint Peter’s Catholic Church Preservation Fund and Masses.
