VELMA E. SMITH

101, of Ft. Wayne, passed away Saturday February 24, 2018 at St. Joseph Medical Center.

Velma was born to parents Hitty and Charles Lahr on October 4, 1916. She had five siblings, Keith, Chuck, Lester, Alvin, and Violet. Velma married Riley and had two children, Danny and Jerry.

She worked for Eckrich for many years before retiring from Ft. Wayne Tailoring. She enjoyed watching wrestling, cooking and old westerns.

Velma is survived by her son Jerry, daughter in law Louise; nieces, Dotty, Cheryl and Charline, and nephew Larry. Also surviving are grandchildren Tony and Kirk along with Kristine and Mary; great grandchildren Joni, Michael, Debra, and David; and great-great grandchildren Brayden, Breah, and Landin.

A prayer service will be held Friday March 2, 2018, 12 noon, at the Tom Mungovan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service. Entombment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.
